Why Your Best Work Is Still to Come with Megan Walker

Megan Walker: Welcome to Beyond Clinical Success. I'm Megan Walker, and this show is for healthcare professionals who know they have more to give and want to create impact beyond one-to-one care. Over the last two decades, I've had the privilege of working alongside thousands of health and medical professionals, and I've noticed a really fascinating pattern.

At the beginning of your career, success looks quite clear. You're building your skills, and if you go into private practice, you're building up the practice. It's always about helping more patients, creating financial security and building a reputation. And for many people, that's exactly what happens.

But then something interesting starts to emerge. The goals begin to change slightly, and the questions become deeper. Instead of "How do I book more appointments and rebook appointments?" it becomes "How do I impact and help more people on a bigger scale? How do I share all of this wisdom that I've amassed over my lifetime, and how do I turn that into creating a legacy?"

People say to me, "I want to help more people, but I still want that balance and freedom, and now spending more time with the people I love." And there's nothing wrong with this. In fact, it's such a common conversation that I have, and it's a sign of growth. You're reaching that stage where you've got that quiet knowing, and all of that expertise is coming together.

You know what you do works. It helps people and it changes lives. There are so many lessons you've learned, and you know you can help so many more people beyond the walls of your clinic. Perhaps you're starting to feel like that. Perhaps you've thought, "I wish everyone knew this. I wish I'd learnt this years ago, and I want to be able to share it with more."

And perhaps that's exactly why you're here, because deep down you have a heart-driven calling to teach, to speak, to do more writing, to mentor more people, and above all, to share your ideas, because you know they help get people out of healthcare suffering. You want to shape the future of healthcare. So here's what I want you to know.

You have the opportunity to become a thought leader, and that's not about being famous or being seen and heard on social media and having a big flashy ego. Thought leadership is about service. It's about taking all of that knowledge you've learned and making it available to more people. You do this by creating educational assets that continue helping people long after you've stepped away from your practice.

That might look like a webinar series, a healthcare book, having a podcast, running workshops, or building out a community where people can support each other. All of these things allow your wisdom to reach people you'll never meet, and you can be helping at a national and an international scale. That's a beautiful thing.

You have some of the most valuable knowledge in the world, but it can be hidden inside your clinic or even inside your head. That's why I believe the future belongs to healthcare professionals who are willing to share what they've learned, and doing so generously and ethically. Not because you've got all of the answers or you want to big note yourself. In fact, the opposite. You've got the experience, and the most important work for you is still to come. This is time for sharing more.

Thanks so much for joining me. I can't wait to hear your feedback. Drop me a line if you'd like to keep the conversation going, and I look forward to seeing you in our next episode.
